Construction of the 330,000-square-metre New West Port at Kalundborg, Denmark, has officially begun.

The first stone in the construction of the new port was thrown over the railing and into Kalundborg Fjord, where the new port area will be completed by February 2019.

New West Port will include a container terminal and a 500-metre quay and will have a water depth of 15 metres. There will also be an area of 25,000 square metres in which cruise ships can turn around.

The Port of Kalundborg chose NCC Industry (Hercules Fundering) for the land-based construction and Finland’s Wasa Dredging for the dredging.

Both contracts were signed before the sod-turning ceremony.
