The Mexican government has given its approval for the land reclamation associated with the new Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) crude oil refinery in Dos Bacas, Tabasco.

The €235 million (US$262 million) contract was awarded to a consortium of Van Oord and Grupo Huerta Madre SAPI de CV.

Within 10 months, Van Oord will reclaim 12 million cubic metres of sand to create 600 hectares of new land under the contract.

The company will deploy the cutter suction dredger Athena (pictured) and a trailing suction hopper dredger for the land reclamation.
