Jan De Nul takes delivery of WID Giovanni Venturi

Giovanni Venturi

Jan De Nul Group recently took delivery of an offshore supply vessel that has been converted into a water injection dredger (WID) by Singapore’s PaxOcean Shipyard.

The vessel, Giovanni Venturi (pictured), is set to be mobilised for its first dredging project in Argentina.

The shallow-draught dredger has been fitted with power jetting systems used for low-pressure injection of water into sediments, which in turn fluidises the sediments and causes them to naturally move, just above the seabed, through natural sediment streams.

Giovanni Venturi will be used for maintenance dredging works in smaller ports but also for other services such as leveling the seabed for other installation services or for post-lowering of pipelines and cables in the seabed.

Two other WIDs, Henri Pitot and Henry Darcy, are in the process of being converted at PaxOcean and will be delivered later this year.
