The Danish Government and the municipality of Hvidovre have unveiled a plan to create the Holmene Business Area consisting of nine artificial islands off Copenhagen’s south coast.

The plan, which is subject to parliamentary approval, seeks to create up to 3.1 million square metres of new land and an additional 17 kilometres of coastline with the end goal of making the area more attractive to international businesses.

Dredging work is expected to begin in 2022 with a target completion of 2040.
