From Baird Maritime
A modern, well-found and well crewed ship, the S.S. 'Koombana', after only three years' service, disappeared without trace off Western Australia's Pilbara coast.
An interesting enough story in itself, the author backgrounds it brilliantly to develop the tale well beyond that of a straight forward shipwreck story.
Her extensive researches have led to a fascinating tale of the pioneering days in Australia's rugged and remote north west. Her descriptions of the eighty-two passengers and seventy-two crew who disappeared with the 'Koombana' are masterpieces. The work involved is staggering.
Bearing in mind that 'Koombana' vanished in early 1912, it is amazing the author has been able to accumulate so many appropriate pictures. Another very impressive research effort.
A fascinating yarn well told and presented in a very high quality book.
