From Baird Maritime
Another of those excellent little books in which David Williams so faithfully and usefully records an aspect of maritime history that may otherwise be forgotten.
The book roughly covers the period from the end of the Second World War until the 1980s so, about half a century. It also focuses mainly on the larger international ferries.
We see also two of the more significant disasters that befell monohull Ro-Ro ferries, the 'European Gateway' and the 'Herald of Free Enterprise'. Despite many warnings, including from this magazine, complacency and arrogance prevailed and far too many people died unnecessarily.
Histories such as this are incredibly important. Without them we continue, painfully, to re-invent the wheel.
