FESCO to start Summer navigation in the Arctic

FESCO’s ‘Admiral Makarov’ icebreaker will provide pilotage to the ports and port-points of Chukotka and the Northern Sea Route (NSR) in the eastern sector of the Arctic Region from July to November 2016, the company has announced.

The icebreaker left the home port of Vladivostok on July 8, 2016 and will start piloting vessels in the waters of the NSR on July 16, 2016 by approaching to Cape Dezhnev.

Russia’s Federal Maritime and River Transport Agency reportedly requested FESCO to begin the service.

Since 2004 FESCO has been carrying out pilotage of vessels at the request of the Federal Maritime and River Transport Agency of the Russian Federation.
