'Awsan' and 'Qataban' are two of the new Wave Protector-class fast patrol boats which have been designed and developed in conjunction with British designer Camarc. The new design has a solid foam collar with a double chine deep vee hull.

The new vessels are 12 metres long and 3.7 metres wide and are powered by twin 352kW Cummins QSB5.9 engines driving UltraJet UJ305 waterjets via ZF 280-1 gearboxes, giving them a top speed of 38 knots. 'Awsan' and 'Qataban' are destined for duty at an LNG export facility in Yemen.

The vessels have air-conditioned accommodation for up to six persons, a small WC and day berth and a galley.

The boats will join three other Alnmaritec boats already operating at the terminal providing line handling and pilot services.
