From Baird Maritime
As is well known the Chinese shipbuilding industry has taken a deep dive in the past couple of years.
Indeed, numerous shipyards have gone bankrupt and closed. Others have simply disappeared.
While Chinese statistics are notoriously unreliable, the generally recognised peak number of shipyards in 2008 was thought to be somewhat between 4,000 and 6,000.
This useful little book lists the contact details and specialities of some 2,370 "enterprises and organisations". That would seem to be a reasonable estimate of the current Chinese shipbuilding order of battle. However, it should be noted that many of the organisations listed cannot strictly be classified as ship builders.
Most, in fact, seem to be suppliers of bits and pieces of ships. So, in reality, this is more a directory of the shipbuilding industry and its suppliers.
Nevertheless, for anyone selling to the wider Chinese shipbuilding industry, it provides a very useful initial contact list.
