From Baird Maritime:
Harking back to enduring his own lessons in celestial navigation in the early seventies at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology's School of Navigation and Seamanship, your reviewer wishes this book had been available then.
The course would really have been unnecessary or, at the least, could easily have been based on this as a text. It is so much easier to follow than tedious lectures and the Admiralty Manual of Navigation.
It is, exactly as described, a self-teaching course. Probably the best way to use it would be to buy a plastic sextant (one of the better ones of course) jump on your boat and go out and practice, practice, practice until you get it right. For safety, you can check your resulting position against your trusty GPS.
Mariners, generally, are beginning to re-learn and take pride in traditional skills. This is an easy and pleasant way to catch up with the all-important celestial navigation.
