Bibby Marine Services has signed a contract with Damen for the delivery of a purpose-built service operations vessel (SOV) to serve the offshore wind market.
'Bibby WaveMaster 1' will undertake offshore wind project work in the North Sea. It is the first vessel purpose-built for the transfer and accommodation of offshore personnel and aims to maximise working time and staff retention.
The SOV complements offshore wind farm technology with its walk-to-work access, allowing the vessel to remain at sea for periods up to one month. Accommodation is provided on board for up to 45 turbine maintenance personnel and 15 crew members.
Working efficiency is one of the key drivers behind the innovative vessel design. The space has been carefully planned in terms of storage, workflow and logistics to ensure that the movement of both people and goods is smartly optimised.
The vessel has been specifically designed to be as green as possible, with minimal emissions and low fuel consumption.
'Bibby WaveMaster 1' is being `built at Damen's Shipyard in Romania and is expected to launch in mid-2017.
