By Edward F. Finch
From Baird Maritime:
Best known for his classic submarine novel "Run Silent, Run Deep", Ned Beach was not only a successful author. He was one of the U.S. Navy's most successful submarine officers.
As well as serving on three submarines through the Second World War, Beach went on to command nuclear submarines. Indeed, he was C.O. of the first such craft to circumnavigate the earth while submerged, the 'USS Triton'.
"Bulldog" Beach earned ten decorations for gallantry while on his ten combat patrols in the Pacific. He wrote ten books including three novels. During his thirty-year naval career he also became the public face of the submarine branch, and advisor to President Eisenhower and much more.
A most interesting and diverse career very well described.
