From Baird Maritime
From its highly appropriate title to its usefully extensive bibliography and first rate index, this comparatively small book is a great and valuable history.
Known widely as the "father of the nuclear Navy", Admiral Hyman Rickover was the author's mentor. He knew him well and this comes through clearly in his book.
Arguably, Rickover can be said to be the US Navy's Jacky Fisher. He, mainly through force of intellect and character, revolutionised the Navy. Again, arguably, it could be said that he won the Cold War for America.
As the author states, "Rickover was a serious man involved in equally serious business". He would not, indeed could not, suffer fools. This made him unpopular in certain quarters but no-one, even his enemies, could deny his vital accomplishments.
A personal but excellent and important biography.
