From Baird Maritime
Admiral Chester Nimitz was arguable history's lowest key but most effective naval commander ever.
Following, some thirty-five years later, the seminal "Nimitz" by E.B. Potter, this book takes a different, more reserved, approach to the great man. It is less personal than the Potter book since Potter knew Nimitz well. It does, however, fill in a number of gaps with information that has come to light since 1976.
Nimitz's success against overwhelming opposition both Japanese and American, is well known. Combining intellectual brilliance and overwhelming force of personality, he pulled a spaghetti of strings together and prevailed.
This very carefully written and extensively researched biography does justice to its subject and, very importantly, to his most significant colleagues. A very useful and refreshing update on the life of one of the world's most important naval officers.
