New boats have been delivered to two customers in the US and one in Russia while a UK-based owner places a repeat newbuilding order with a local builder.

Russia’s Rosatom adds multi-role pilot launch to fleet

Russia’s Zelenodolsk Shipyard has handed over a new pilot boat to local company Rosatom.

Aleksandr Parfenov will also perform the secondary function of resupply, crew transfer, and maintenance of buoys and other aids to navigation.

The boat has an LOA of 35 metres, a beam of 10.6 metres, a design draught of 2.5 metres, space for 10 crewmembers and four other personnel, a cargo deck with an area of 150 square metres, and a cargo hold that can accommodate up to 159 cubic metres. Two 895kW engines deliver a speed of over 11 knots.

Michigan lake pilotage operator takes delivery of new boat

The Lake Pilots Association of Port Huron, Michigan, has expanded its fleet with the addition of a new boat built by Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding of Somerset, Massachusetts.

The Ray Hunt-designed Huron Pride is of all-aluminium construction and has a length of 42.5 feet (12.9 metres), a beam of 13 feet (3.9 metres), and a draught of 2.5 feet (0.76 metres). A maximum speed of 37 knots can be achieved thanks to two Cummins QSL-19 diesel engines driving Hamilton waterjets.

The wheelhouse has seating for a coxswain and four pilots/passengers.

New pilot boat delivered to Port Aransas, Texas

Aracor, an operator based in Port Aransas, Texas, recently took delivery of a new pilot boat from Breaux’s Bay Craft of Loreauville, Louisiana.

Aransas Pilot III measures 70 by 19.5 feet (21.3 by 5.9 metres) and is powered by two Cummins QSK 38M1 engines that deliver speeds of up to 30 knots.

Seating is available for two crew and 12 pilots.

Briggs Marine orders pilot launch from Norfolk builder

Briggs Marine and Environmental Services of Fife has awarded Norfolk boat builder Goodchild Marine Services a contract for the construction of a new pilot launch.

The 12-metre-long boat will be the sixth pilot launch ordered by Briggs Marine from the same builder. The first five boats were initially used to serve customers at the Port of Liverpool.

The new boat will be designed to be road transportable for easier deployment over long distances.
