Russian Maritime Register of Shipping approves serial construction of new unmanned craft
The Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) has awarded local engineering firm Rubin Central Design Bureau a certification permitting the serial production of new autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).
During its inspection of Rubin's production capability, RS assessed the technological competence and readiness of the company and determined that it is capable of the serial manufacture of its Amulet-S AUVs and Talisman-S ROVs.
The unmanned vehicles are optimised for underwater search and inspection duties. The AUVs can operate at depths of as much as 70 metres while the ROVs can reach 50 metres.
The craft can be deployed directly into the water from a vessel of opportunity or from shore and can operate for up to six hours. The AUV also boasts a modular design to permit the integration of mission-specific payloads depending on customer requirements.
Prototypes of both the AUVs and the ROVs were first tested in the Arctic in 2021.
