Brazilian firm's offshore inspection USV design awarded Lloyd's Register AIP
Lloyd’s Register (LR) has granted approval in principle (AIP) to Brazilian company TideWise for its 24-metre unmanned surface vehicle (USV), which is designed for offshore subsea inspection operations at depths of up to 2,500 metres.
LR said the AIP confirms the vessel’s structural integrity, stability, and compliance with control system standards.
The multi-purpose USV is built to withstand harsh maritime conditions and incorporates innovative advancements in autonomous navigation, obstacle detection, and collision avoidance.
With an endurance of 35 days and DP2 capability, the vessel can deploy a work-class, electric-powered remotely operated vehicle (ROV) at depths of up to 2,500 metres. Its ability to perform multiple tasks offers the potential to streamline workflows, minimise operational downtime, reduce costs, and enhance the overall efficiency of offshore projects.
Powered by a hybrid diesel-electric system with the potential for future migration to hydrogen, the USV can operate with significantly reduced carbon emissions.
Rafael Coelho, TideWise CEO, said the USV eliminates factors such as human error, which will help to ensure more reliable and secure operations in challenging environments in the maritime and offshore sectors.
