Bangladesh-based shipbuilder Western Marine has inaugurated the construction of a 176TEU container vessel with a keel laying ceremony at the shipbuilder's Patiya facility.

Constructed under survey to Bureau Veritas, the vessel will be owned and operated by M R Global.

The ship will be able to carry 176 TEUs of containers from Chittagong Port to the newly developed Pangaon Inland Container Terminal (PICT) in Narayanganj.

The vessel is a core aspect of a supply route that will allow inbound containers to be transported to Dhaka by an inland river passage, thereby reducing traffic density in Bangladesh's highways.
