The first in Stena Bulk's new series of ultra-modern, low-consumption Suezmax tanker was named 'Stena Superior' at a ceremony at Samsung HI's shipyard in Geoje, South Korea.
'Stena Superior' is the first Suezmax tanker in a series of seven 158,000DWT vessels measuring 274 metres in length and 48 metres across the beam. The next Stena Bulk Suezmax in the series is 'Stena Suède', which will be delivered by November 15 to enter a long-term time-charter with the French oil giant Total. The tankers have a dramatically improved energy efficiency, with bunker consumption reduced by up to 15 percent compared with the most efficient conventional Suezmax tankers currently on the waters.
Most of the vessels in the series will join the Stena Sonangol Suezmax Pool. The pool was formed in 2005 and is controlled by Stena Bulk and the state-owned Angolan oil company Sonangol.
