Golar LNG, Norway, is considering ordering two LNG-FSRU units if its 170,000-cubic-metre FSRU 'Golar Tundra' under construction at Samho Heavy Industriesis taken up as planned.
In 2011-2012, Golar placed speculative newbuilding orders at Samsung and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, and the owner exercised an option to add a regasification kit to one (the 'Tundra') of the LNG carriers contracted with Samsung.
Golar signed a five-year charter agreement with Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) for the 170,000-cubic-metre FSRU 'Golar Igloo' (built in 2014). 'Golar Eskimo', a 160,000-cubic-metre FSRU, also started the work this year.
'Golar Tundra' is scheduled for delivery in November this year. Under an agreement inked with Quantum Power in 2014, the unit is said to be working in Ghana, West Africa, but Golar said the contract is not firmed up yet and that the vessel remains open for employment elsewhere.
