DNV GL has brought together a range of industry stakeholders to develop a new LNG carrier, "better suited to future trading patterns than existing vessels".
According to DNV GL, the project will include a range of technology advances in cargo containment and propulsion efficiency, with a focus on improving environmental friendliness, fuel consumption and efficiency.
Stakeholders brought on board the project include GTT, Hyundai Heavy Industries, and GasLog.
"Recent technological developments make this a good time to look forward to a new generation of ships," commented Martin Davies, the project's manager at DNV GL.
Mr Davies said the project will utilise tools such as DNV GL's in-house power management design computer platform COSSMOS, as well as hull optimisation software.
"We are confident it is possible to develop a vessel that will be future competitive and future compliant, with significant advances across a range of features, including speed-range flexibility, hull form and boil-off rate," Mr Davies concluded.
The project is due for completion by the end of the year.
