Germany's Meyer Werft delivered the new passenger cruise vessel 'Celebrity Equinox' to Celebrity Cruises, USA, on July 16 in the Dutch port of Eemshaven.
The 'Celebrity Equinox' is the second ship out of a series of five cruise ships the shipyard is building for Celebrity Cruises.
This eco-friendly ship allows a total energy saving of about 30 percent compared with similar ships due to its energy-efficient components such as a photovoltaic system, optimised hull design, an efficient underwater coating and an energy-saving lighting system using LEDs.
The 'Celebrity Equinox' meets the new rules and regulations regarding damaged stability which will be valid as of 2009. These rules help to increase safety considerably in case the ship is damaged due to a leak.
The vessel's naming ceremony will take place on July 29 after which it will set sail for a couple of mini cruises. The first cruise, to the Fjords of Norway, will start on July 31. Following this, the 'Celebrity Equinox' will enter into regular service in the Mediterranean.
The 122,000GT vessel has an overall length of 317.2 metres, a moulded beam of 36.8 metres and a fully loaded draught of 8.5 metres.
'Celebrity Equinox' has accommodation for 2,852 passengers and 1,271 crewmembers.
The vessel was classed by Det Norske Veritas to *1A1 "Passenger Ship" ECO, RPS,F-M,COMF-V(1) FUEL, LCD-DC, BIS.
