‘Chem Venus’ allides with three sailboats before grounding

A 150-metre long oil tanker has grounded following a collision with three unmanned yachts on the Piscataqua River near the New Hampshire and Maine border in the USA.

The vessel, the ‘Chem Venus’, began taking on water due to damage sustained during the grounding, which was stabilised and monitored by the ship’s crew and coast guard responders.

Salvage divers responding to the incident found a tear measuring one metre by three metres.

The owner of the ‘Chem Venus’ is expected to develop a salvage plan which will be reviewed and approved by the coast guard.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
