NYK has recently taken delivery of the car carrier 'Aries Leader' from Japanese shipbuilder Shin Kurushima Dockyard.
Constructed at Shin Kurushima's Onishi Shipyard, the vessel is Japan's first post-Panamax-sized car carrier. The vessel measures nearly 200 metres in length overall, with a breadth of 35.8 metres and a draught of 37.7 metres.
The vessel is capable of carrying up to 7,000 units and utilises advanced energy saving technology, including an air lubrication system and a hybrid turbocharger. 4
According to NYK, neither system has been installed onto a car carrier before.
The 18,800DWT vessel also features an electronically controlled engine and utilises water-emulsified fuel in its boiler.
NYK expects significant reduction in carbon emissions compared to existing car carriers.
