AXS Alphaliner releases global boxship fleet stats for 2009

Paris-based maritime consultant, AXS-Alphaliner has released the results of its study on the global containership fleet in 2009.

According to the report, a total of 268 boxships were built in 2009, reaching a capacity of 1.07 million TEU.

At the same time, 207 vessels (381,169TEU) were withdrawn from the market, 204 of these vessels were scrapped.

Consequently, the global containership fleet stood at 4,718 vessels (13.05 million TEU) as of January 1, 2010.
