533 ships laid up as orders cancelled

Contracts for over 533 newbuildings around the world have been annulled from January to the end of May, most recently large numbers of dry bulk vessels.

Idle containership capacity in the world at the end of the first week in June stood at 10.3 percent, a nudge up from the 10.2 percent recorded two weeks ago.

Idle ships in June represent 1.315 million TEU, a slight rise from 1.304 million TEU.
