

The Shipbuilding and Repair Development Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SRDC) recently participated in their first bid proposal for the design and build of two harbour tugs for a state-owned towage and harbour operations company.
SRDC is the commercial business entity of the Trinidad and Tobago Shipbuilding and Repair Cluster, an initiative of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (GORTT).
This bid involved having to partner with Robert Allan, Canada.
The government of Trinidad and Tobago is looking at the shipbuilding and repair sector as an important area in its diversification thrust for 2010.
Wilfred de Gannes, Chairman and CEO of the SRDC, said that the bid proposal was develop with the efforts of several local cluster stakeholders including: Alstons Shipping (Ansa McAl Group), Damus, Inter-Isle Construction & Fabrication Company and Tracmac, alongside Louisiana Machinery which is part of Caterpillar's network of Marine Excellence Centres (MEC).
