Polestar Maritime orders two more tugs from Cochin Shipyard

Published on:

India's Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has received an order from Polestar Maritime for two 70-tonne bollard pull tugs.

The new order is in addition to a previous contract for three similar tugs that Polestar placed with Udupi-CSL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of CSL. The two new vessels will be based on a Robert Allan Ltd design and will be jointly constructed by CSL and Udupi-CSL in Cochin.

The tugs will be propelled by two 1,838 kW main engines and 2.7-metre propellers from Niigata IHI Power Systems. The design complies with the approved standard tug design and specifications promulgated by the Indian Government to promote its "Make in India" initiative.

With this contract, the CSL Group's order book now includes eighteen standard tugs and two "green tugs". Madhu Nair, Chairman and Managing Director of CSL, noted it was a repeat order from Polestar and stated the company is also committed to the upcoming "green tug transition programme" announced by the Indian Government.
