MedTug's Malta subsidiary welcomes new harbour tug to fleet

Published on:

Tug Malta, a subsidiary of towage specialist the MedTug Group, formally welcomed a new RSD tug to its fleet in a ceremony on Wednesday, December 4.

Med Aldebaran measures 25 metres long and can deliver a bollard pull of 80 tonnes. A selective catalytic reduction system ensures compliance with IMO Tier III NOx emissions standards.

The tug also boasts Fifi1 firefighting equipment and an IoT solution that collects and analyses data gathered from sensors all around the vessel. The latter system reports such factors as fuel, oil, and water levels on board as well as performance indicators including power, RPM, and fuel consumption. This will allow for more efficient sailing, reducing both fuel consumption and emissions, and for maximising uptime via preventive maintenance.

Med Aldebaran is a sister vessel to Senglea, which was handed over to Tug Malta earlier this year. Both tugs sailed under their own power for their respective delivery voyages.

The new tug will be operated out of the Port of Marsaxlokk on Malta's southeastern coast.
