Med Marine launches new harbour tug for Spanish operator
Turkish shipbuilder Med Marine launched a new 23-metre harbour tug for the Spanish marine services company Remolcanosa at its Eregli Shipyard on July 18.
The new tug, which is based on a design by Canadian naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd is engineered to deliver a bollard pull of 50 tons and meets Class FIFI-1 standards for firefighting.
According to the builder, the multi-purpose tug is designed for ship handling, towing, pushing, mooring, and firefighting operations and is equipped with both forward and aft winches and an aft towing hook.
The 23.4-metre tug has a beam of 11.9 metres, a draft of 5.1 metres, a top speed of 11.4 knots, and accommodation for a crew of seven people. Its propulsion system features an azimuth stern drive powered by two diesel engines linked to Z-drive units with fixed-pitch propellers and high-efficiency nozzles, which the builder stated guarantees, “outstanding bollard pull and precise manoeuvrability for demanding harbour operations.”
