Boluda Towage's Mexican affiliate to welcome two new tugs into service

Published on:

Compania Maritima Mexicana, a Mexico-based affiliate company of Boluda Towage, will soon welcome two new escort tugs into service.

CMM Azteca (pictured) and CMM Mexico belong to a series of tugs designed by Canadian naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd (RAL). The tugs have since departed on their delivery voyage, sailing from Hong Kong to Mexico under their own power.

The tugs each have an LOA of 32 metres, a moulded beam of 12.8 metres, a moulded depth of 5.7 metres, a gross tonnage of just under 500, and foam/water firefighting monitors. Tank capacities are 154 cubic metres for fuel oil, 55 cubic metres for potable water, and 12.7 cubic metres for firefighting foam.

RAL said that, during sea trials, the tugs exceeded expectations, achieving a bollard pull of more than 83 tonnes and a free running speed of 13.4 knots.

CMM Azteca and CMM Mexico were built in compliance with Lloyd's Register rules.
