First-generation LNG harbour tug to be built in Dubai
Drydocks World and Dubai Maritime City (DMC) have entered into a memorandum of understanding with Wärtsilä and the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence for the construction of one of the world's first LNG-fuelled tugs.
The tug, a harbour tug, is part of an initiative known as the Green Economy for Sustainable Development – a program was launched by the vice president of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The newbuilding project, launched under the name 'Elemarateyah', also forms a significant part of the Dubai Maritime Green Initiative, a strategic movement established to promote environmental awareness in both the maritime industry and oil and gas sectors of the Gulf Region.
The tug will have a dual-fuel engine system, capable of operating with both traditional marine diesel oil and LNG.
