Sealord awaits delivery of flagship vessel

Sea trials have been completed for the flagship vessel of New Zealand fishing company Sealord.

Being built at Simek Shipyard in Flekkefjord, Norway, the Skipsteknisk-designed trawler Tokatu is the first new trawler to join the New Zealand fleet for 20 years.

The NZ$70 million (US$50 million) vessel will have the capacity to handle 20,000 tonnes of raw material annually including barracuda, squid and jack mackerel.

Tokatu has an overall length of 81.75 metres and a beam of 17 metres, with accommodation for up to 50 persons. It has a 2,500-cubic-metre fishroom capacity.

Its main engine has a 5,400kW output and fuel capacity is 1,120 cubic metres. Tokatu is expected to leave the Simek yard in Norway before the end of April, and the official naming ceremony will take place at Nelson at the end of May.
