German builder floats out 114m custom yacht

Published on

German yacht builder Lürssen launched a new 114-metre vessel into the water on Saturday, August 9.

Cosmos is being built for an undisclosed owner, whom Lürssen said had wanted, "something unique with which to discover the world." Design work on the interior and exterior was provided by Marc Newsom.

The yacht features a large, glass-domed private owner’s study, complete with a sky terrace.

Lürssen had developed a custom solution to bend large sections of thick glass to create 360-degree panoramic views from the study, which is situated atop the vessel. The sky terrace will meanwhile offer the owner a personal al fresco space directly connected to the study.

On the cabin deck is a continuous glass band surrounding the entire upper level for uninterrupted views. Located forward in the bow, beneath the helipad, is a glass-encased observation lounge, while aft lies an open balcony with a glass balustrade overlooking the main deck.

The open aft deck will feature a swimming pool and whirlpool arrangement, flanked by comfortable seating. A dry dock, which will operate with a sledge to launch and retrieve the supporting tender, is also located aft.

Cosmos boasts six decks and is reinforced to ice class 1D, enabling safe operation in light ice conditions.
