Indian petroleum transport and bunkering company Shiny Shipping and Logistics has taken delivery of Shaun 3, a 2,650-cubic-metre (583,000-gallon) oil tanker built for coastal and international operations.

The Tuvalu-flagged vessel was constructed under Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) classification and has a double hull. She was built to possess a greater cargo capacity compared to some of the earlier vessels in the Shiny Shipping fleet.

Nirmon Marine and Offshore Design undertook the basic and detail design engineering, while construction was carried out by Mandovi Drydocks at its shipyard in Goa. Nirmon has described the vessel specifically as a full seagoing oil tanker and lists its areas of operation as the A1, A2 and A3 sea area communication categories under GMDSS.

Shaun 3 has an LOA of 75.5 metres (248 feet), a length between perpendiculars of 72.21 metres (236.9 feet), a beam of 14.02 metres (46 feet), a moulded depth of 6.15 metres (20.2 feet), a maximum draught of 4.16 metres (13.6 feet), a deadweight of 2,628.35, and a speed of 9.8 knots.

Can accommodate a range of liquid cargo types

The IRS particulars give a gross tonnage of 1,974 and a net tonnage of 612, alongside a displacement of 3,861 tonnes.

The hull classification specifies carriage of liquids with a flashpoint exceeding 60°C. Its additional notations are “Oil tanker, Inwater Survey, Double Hull, ESP, + SUL”. The machinery notation is “+ IY, CyS-E”.

Part of a growing bunker and supply fleet serving Middle East customers

The vessel is powered by a Baudouin (Weifang) Power 6M33C750-18 main engine with a rated output of 1,102 kW (1,480 hp). The auxiliary electrical generation meanwhile comprises one 60kW generator and two 182kW generators. All three are listed at 415 V and 50 Hz.

Kenivaa Shipping will serve as Shaun 3’s commercial manager. The tanker is presently in the Gulf of Oman, having been deployed to the region to provide bunkering and supply services for Global Oil Resources based in Muscat along with other vessels in the Shiny Shipping fleet.
