New dual-fuel LPG/ammonia carrier delivered to Kumiai Navigation

Published on:

Japanese shipbuilder Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) delivered a new LPG and ammonia (NH3) carrier to Kumiai Navigation on Sunday, June 29.

The Singapore-flagged Crystal Odyssey has an LOA of 229.9 metres, a beam of 37.2 metres, a depth of 21.9 metres, a deadweight of 56,331, a total cargo capacity of 86,700 cubic metres, and a crew complement of 29.

The ship's Kawasaki-MAN B&W 6G60ME-C10.5-LGIP electronically controlled main engine can be operated on either diesel or LPG and can deliver a service speed of 17 knots. When in LPG mode, the engine can generate reduced SOx emissions and comply with EEDI phase III regulations.

The LPG and NH3 cargo will be housed in separate tanks, allowing for the simultaneous transport of the two different types of liquid cargo.

The ship's design will also permit an increase in overall cargo tank capacity while keeping both the length and beam similar to those of conventional vessels. This would allow it to berth at a greater number of LPG terminals worldwide.
