South Korean yard launches new large LCO2 carrier
South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Mipo launched a new large LCO2 carrier into the water for the first time at its Ulsan facilities on on Tuesday, April 15.
Named Active, the LCO2 carrier is the first in a planned series of four ordered from HD Hyundai Mipo by Greek shipping company Capital Clean Energy Carriers Corporation.
The completed ship will have a length of 159.9 metres, a beam of 27.4 metres, a height of 17.8 metres, and a total cargo capacity of 22,000 cubic metres.
The LCO2 will be kept in three cargo tanks where the temperature can be maintained at –55 degrees Celsius. Other liquefied gas cargo such as LPG and ammonia may also be transported.
The vessel will also be fitted with a shore power connection and a selective catalytic reduction system to minimise NOx emissions. The ship's hull was meanwhile built to Ice Class 1C specification.
Active is scheduled for delivery to the customer at the end of 2025.
