New LNG bunkering terminal begins operations in China's Jiangxi province

A newly completed LNG bunkering terminal has begun operations at the Port of Hukou near Jiujiang City in southeastern China's Jiangxi province.

The Hukou Port Area LNG bunkering terminal is the first LNG bunkering terminal in Jiangxi province and is also one of 45 such facilities serving vessels that operate in the Yangtze River.

Construction of the terminal was undertaken by local engineering firm CIMC ENRIC. The facility will have a projected annual throughput of 11,000 tonnes of LNG.

The terminal will be capable of 2,000 bunkering operations over a 12-month period. The inaugural bunkering saw 7.9 tonnes of LNG being loaded into the inland commercial vessel Hangyuan 1001.

The terminal features a large-diameter filling pipe promising around 15 per cent shorter bunkering times as well as 150-cubic-metre and 30-cubic-metre storage tanks. The latter tanks are fitted with thermal insulation and systems for minimising incidences of boil-off gas, thus ensuring longer storage periods.
