ExxonMobil Mozambique, acting on behalf of Area 4 co-venturers ENH, CNPC, Eni, KOGAS and XRG, has awarded approximately $1.1 billion in pre-investment contracts for long-lead upstream equipment for the Rovuma LNG Phase 1 development in Cabo Delgado.

The awards precede a final investment decision and cover the engineering, procurement and manufacturing of subsea production systems, large-bore production valves and offshore line pipe.

The largest contract was awarded to OneSubsea UK and OneSubsea, with local support from Aker Solutions Mozambique, for subsea production systems, controls and umbilicals.

Additional equipment commitments were made with Advanced Technology Valve, Corinth Pipeworks Pipe Industry, Sumitomo Corporation of America and Zhejiang Jiuli Hi-Tech Metals.

The contracts will allow suppliers to begin manufacturing specialised equipment with extended delivery schedules, helping align procurement with project timelines and secure required infrastructure.

“By securing critical long-lead equipment, we are positioning the project for efficient execution,” said Lead Country Manager Johanna Boothey.

The Rovuma LNG project involves developing offshore gas resources in Area 4 and constructing an onshore facility with planned production capacity of 18.6 million tonnes of LNG per year.

Pre-investment activities will also support early site construction as the co-venturers advance the development towards a final investment decision.
