Chinese yard to build LNG bunkering vessel for Shanghai Port
China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) subsidiary Jiangnan Shipbuilding and the Shanghai International Port Group have entered into an agreement for the construction of a new LNG bunkering vessel that will serve ships visiting the Port of Shanghai.
The vessel will be designed by CSSC subsidiary Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute.
Upon completion, it will have a total cargo capacity of 20,000 cubic metres, an electric propulsion system that will include two azimuthing thrusters, and technology that would allow boil-off gas in the cargo tanks to be re-used as fuel by the vessel's own engines.
The vessel will be fitted with intelligent systems for cargo management, crew safety, and maintenance. The systems will comply with the China Maritime Safety Administration's technical guide for intelligent ship monitoring systems.
An energy saving system will be installed to enable the vessel to comply with IMO Tier III NOx requirements as well as help reduce emissions of SOx and particulate matter.
The electronics will include a satellite TV and a 4G/5G mobile phone signal amplifier.
