Saudi state-owned shipowner Bahri has been identified as the buyer of three midsize LPG carriers sold by Belgium’s Exmar.
The acquisition marks Bahri’s entry into LPG carrier ownership through secondhand tonnage.
The acquired tonnage includes the 2016-built Kortrijk and the 2017-built Kruibeke, each with capacity of 38,500 cubic metres. The third vessel is the 2018-built, 38,200-cubic-metre Wepion.
The former Kortrijk has been renamed Gas Aqua while no name changes have been recorded for Kruibeke or Wepion when Bahri’s expansion plans were first reported.
All three ships are fully refrigerated midsize gas carriers classed by Lloyd’s Register.
These formed part of Exmar’s sale of five LPG carriers, which also covered the fully pressurised vessels Joan and Elisabeth built in 2009. Each of the smaller ships has capacity of about 3,540 cubic metres.
Exmar expects the five-vessel disposal to generate a US$35 million gain based on the ships’ book values and its ownership interests. The company did not disclose buyers or prices when announcing the package.
Deliveries were planned for the latter half of 2026 and the first half of 2027.
