Swedish tanker operator Furetank Rederi has formally named the newest product tanker to join its fleet.
Fure Vasa will be operated by FureBear, the 50-50 joint venture company formed by Furetank and Canadian dry bulk shipping company Algoma Central Corporation.
The newbuild is the latest example in a series of product tankers built by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard to a design developed by Furetank in collaboration with Sweden's FKAB Marine Design.
Fure Vasa will be operated primarily on liquefied biomethane within EU waters. The tanker's design also permits operation along the St Lawrence Seaway that passes through Canada and the United States.
The ship is also fully equipped with a shore power connection covering all operations while in port.
The newbuild has Finnish/Swedish ice class 1A notation, an LOA of 149.9 metres, a beam of 22.8 metres, a deadweight of approximately 17,999, and a total cargo capacity of 20,306 cubic metres.
Propulsion is provided by a medium-speed engine with a gearbox with PTI/PTO and a shaft generator coupled to a controllable-pitch propeller, which is housed in a nozzle to deliver approximately 25 per cent more thrust in addition to generating less underwater noise.
Like her sisters, Fure Vasa will be homeported in Gothenburg and operated in sulphur emission control areas in the North Sea and Scandinavia, transporting biofuels and renewable feedstocks as part of the Gotha Tanker Alliance.
