Surge in final quarter takes Hitachi Zosen out of the red

A surge in revenues in the three months ending March 31, 2009, has revitalised the bottom line of Japan's Hitachi Zosen.

Following three quarters of deficit amounting to US$37.6 million, the shipbuilder reported a 2008 annual profit of US$15.08 million after a final quarter profit of US52.7 million.

For 2009, Hitachi is aiming at a net profit of US$52 million from an expected revenue of US$3.12 billion.
