Australia: Shipping Australia (SAL) has highlighted issues regarding the Port Botany development plan following the appointment of Eric Rozendaal as New South Wales (NSW) Minster for Ports and Waterways.

"Eric Rozendaal, the current Treasurer and Minister for State and Regional Development has had previous experience in the portfolio which should stand him in good stead to take on the many challenges facing this portfolio," said Llew Russell, CEO of SAL

SAL is concerned withthe implementation details of the Port Botany Logistics Development Strategy, in particular the pricing of rail transport as well as the urgent need to tackle current congestion at one of the major terminals at Port Botany

Mr Russell said there is an urgent need to revitalise the level of consultation between industry and New South Wales Government.

"Misdeclaration of container weights is an issue of serious concern to SAL members in the container trade and we wish to engage the Minister in that debate at the earliest opportunity," he said.

"In addition, the upgrading of infrastructure supporting the connections to and from the ports in NSW is a matter that should remain high on the governments agenda."
