Qikiqtaaluk Corporation (QC), an Inuit development corporation created by the Qikiqtani Inuit Association (formerly Baffin Region Inuit Association), is the latest WOC member from the far north.
QC adds to the increasing geographic and cultural scope of the WOC efforts to develop cross-sector, circumpolar collaboration on responsible development in the Arctic.
QC integrates Inuit knowledge, beliefs and culture as it invests and develops economic opportunities in key areas. These include: a range of fisheries, marine services, petroleum distribution, environmental remediation, hazardous waste management, marine transportation, as well as the emerging mining and resource development sector.
Harry Flaherty, president of the QC, said they were pleased to join the WOC. "With the increased level of economic activity in the Arctic, it is crucial that we collaborate with other industries in ensuring that the growing economic opportunities in the region, which are critical to the future of our communities, are safe and responsible," he said.
