The Premier of Western Australia has confirmed that his government would match the Australian Federal Government's US$253.7 million commitment to develop common use infrastructure for the Port of Oakajee's outer harbour.
The port, which is 25km from Geraldton, will begin construction of a rail project in two year's time, and according to the Australian Financial Review (AFR), would unlock Western Australia's mid-west iron ore for global exports.
Premier Colin Barnett told the AFR that the port development was the state's most important economic project for the next 50 years.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2013.
