Vancouver port seeks builder for Roberts Bank Terminal 2 project

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has started the procurement process to select a team to build the landmass and wharf for its proposed Roberts Bank Terminal 2 project. The authority has issued a request for qualifications, the first step in the competitive selection process.

The contract includes the delivery of an approximately 100-hectare (one million-square metre) marine landmass, a widened causeway, a 1,300-metre wharf structure, and an expanded tug basin.

Construction is planned to begin in 2028, with the new container terminal expected to be in operation by the mid-2030s.

The port authority stated that the project will unlock over $100 billion in new trade capacity, contribute $3 billion to GDP annually, and generate thousands of construction and long-term jobs.

The construction contract will also include building a fish passage to support juvenile salmon migration. The port authority noted it has signed mutual benefits agreements with 27 First Nations, who have provided consent for the project to proceed.

The port authority said interested construction teams must provide submissions by September 25, 2025. It will then shortlist three teams this fall to be invited to submit a full proposal.
