TTI Algeciras submits €150m plan for terminal expansion

Published on

Terminal operator TTI Algeciras has formally submitted its Phase B expansion project to the Port Authority of Algeciras in Spain. The project involves a €150 million investment to extend the terminal at Isla Verde Exterior.

The plan involves extending the terminal southwards, adding 160,000 square metres to the current 300,000 square metres. The expansion is intended to increase the terminal's handling capacity by 500,000 TEU to 2.1 million TEU by 2028. A potential second phase could add another 700,000 TEU of capacity. In line with the investment, the terminal's concession period will be extended through to 2065.

Alonso Luque, CEO of TTI Algeciras, stated that the project will provide the additional physical capacity the terminal requires and allow it to accommodate larger vessels. Gerardo Landaluce, President of the Port Authority of Algeciras, added that the terminal's common-user model has helped consolidate Algeciras as a global logistics hub.

TTI Algeciras, which opened in 2010, is jointly owned by South Korean shipping company HMM and the French CMA CGM Group.
