China: The Port of Shenzhen's container throughput fell 22 percent year-on-year to 5.2 million TEU in the period from January to April this year.

A report from the Xinhua news agency said it was not likely for the port to see recovery in the near future.

Meanwhile, the port's cargo throughput dropped 19.6 percent to 55.6 million tonnes. Foreign trade cargo also fell 23.1 percent to 40.5 million tonnes.

In April, Shenzhen's container throughput plunged 24.9 percent year-on-year to 1.3 million TEU. Cargo throughput fell 19.3 percent to 14.9 million tonnes.

In March, the port recorded a surge of 41.3 percent over February in container volume. But the statistical surge was misleading because the February throughput was the port's lowest in five years.
