The northeasten Chinese province of Shandong saw a weak year-on-year recovery of 0.53 percent in the container throughput of its sea ports to 1.1 million TEU in April.
According to Xinhua, tonnage of cargoes handled by Shandong sea ports rose 6.1 percent to 59.6 million tonnes. Foreign trade cargo volume rose 3.7 percent to 34 million tonnes.
From January to April, the cargo handled by these ports totalled 225 million tonnes, up 4.2 percent year-on-year.
Container throughput reached 4.2 million TEU, which was 98.7 percent of the volume recorded in the same month a year ago. Foreign trade cargo amounted to 128 million tonnes, which was 0.7 percent more year-on-year.
During the first four months, the Port of Qingdao, the largest port of the province, handled 105 million tonnes of cargoes, up 4.6 percent.
The Port of Rizhao handled 57.7 million tonnes, up 9.2 percent while the Port of Yantai handled 36.2 million tonnes, up 2.5 percent.
